Message on the Commemoration of International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
As the world commemorates the International Day for the Elimination of Racism and Racial Discrimination, Ghana welcomes the focus of the commemoration on the urgency of combatting racism and racial discrimination, 75 years after the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
In a message, the Permanent Representative of Ghana underscored that “as this year’s commemorative event coincides with the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), it is pertinent for the international community to take stock of progress made in eliminating racism and all forms of racial discrimination, including institutionalised racism and biases”.
He acknowledged the challenges that persist in addressing the menace including disparities in economic opportunities, health care, access to education, among others resulting partly from deficient policies and structures, and in that regard called on all Member States to unite in their efforts to address these barriers. He reaffirmed Ghana’s solidarity and commitment to supporting global efforts in advancing equal opportunity for all and ensuring that no one is left behind irrespective of ones’ race.
