DEPUTY AMBASSADOR BEN DOTSEI MALOR

Ghana’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations

Ben Dotsei Malor assumed office as the Deputy Permanent Representative of Ghana to the United Nations in New York in March 2026.

This appointment follows a distinguished 23-year career at the United Nations, preceded by a 12-year impactful career in international journalism and broadcasting at the BBC in London.

Throughout his tenure at the UN, Mr. Malor has served in several leadership capacities, most recently, as the Chief Editor at UN News, in New York.

From June 2022 to January 2024, he undertook a successful 18-month tenure as the Director of Strategic Communications and Public Information for the UN Mission in South Sudan, (UNMISS,) where he managed over 100 staff members across the country.

His extensive United Nations portfolio also includes serving as:
• Senior Communications Adviser to the President of the 66th Session of the UN General Assembly.
• Associate Spokesperson, Office of the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General.
• Spokesperson and Acting Chief of Communication and Public Information, UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) from 2006 to 2008.
• UN Humanitarian Spokesperson for the UN’s Earthquake Recovery Efforts in Pakistan (2005-2006).
• Chief Executive Producer, UN Radio.

Mr. Malor served as Presidential Spokesperson and Director of Communications at the Presidency (Jubilee House), in 2014, during the first term, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama.

Before joining the UN, he spent twelve years at the BBC in London, where he became a widely recognized voice across Africa on many flagship programmes, most notably Network Africa.

He served as the Deputy Editor of the BBC’s flagship news and current affairs programme, Focus on Africa, until his move to the UN in January 2003, where he started out as Chief Executive Producer (and later Chief) of UN Radio.

Mr. Malor holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Statistics from the University of Ghana (Legon), where he also completed his National Service (1985–1987). He later earned a Ghana Government scholarship that enabled him to complete a Master’s degree in Information Technology from the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
