Ghana to host High-Level Side Event on Reparatory Justice at UN General Assembly 81st session

GHANA TO HOST HIGH-LEVEL SIDE EVENT ON REPARATORY JUSTICE AT UNGA 81

Following the historic adoption of UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/80/250, which recognised the enslavement of Africans as the gravest crime against humanity, Ghana is asking a critical question: What next?

In June 2026, Ghana convened the Next Steps Conference in Accra, bringing together scholars, experts, and advocates to translate historic recognition into meaningful action.
Building on the outcomes of the conference, Ghana has established:
-A High-Level Advisory Council on Reparatory Justice
-A Global Experts Panel on the Restitution of Cultural Heritage
-A Global Legal Panel on Reparatory Justice
These initiatives mark a new chapter in the collective pursuit of justice, restitution, and dignity for Africa and people of African descent worldwide.

Ghana will convene a high-level side event to receive progress reports from these panels and advance the global conversation on reparatory justice.
