ECOSOC YOUTH FORUM PLENARY SESSION SDG17: PARTNERSHIPS AND FINANCING FOR YOUTH

Honourable Chair, Excellencies, Distinguished Delegates,

Ghana reaffirms that strong partnerships and sustainable financing are indispensable to unlocking the full potential of young people and accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Young people are central to innovation, enterprise and inclusive economic growth. Yet, many continue to face barriers in accessing finance, markets and opportunities to scale up their ideas into sustainable ventures. Governments alone cannot address these challenges. Achieving the SDGs require robust public-private partnerships that place young people at the centre of decisionmaking. The SDG 4; Quality education, 8; Decent work and economic growth, and 13; climate action are very vital to youth development.

In response, Ghana has prioritised strategic partnerships as a key pillar of youth development. With support from Development Partners (bilateral and multilateral) we continue to strengthen policy framework. The SDG 17 is crucial for youth development. It emphasises collaboration between governments, private sector and civil society to support youth initiatives.
For Ghana, this means:
– Strengthening youth-led organizations
– Boosting access to tech and innovation
– Fostering international partnerships for youth opportunities

Through the support of key Development Partners, we have advanced digital innovation via the YouthXplore Dashboard and Mobile Application, enhancing data-driven decision-making and youth engagement. In addition, flagship initiatives such as the Adwumawura Programme are expanding youth entrepreneurship and employment opportunities, improving access to finance, skills and markets. However, more required. We call for increased investment through innovative financing mechanisms, stronger and more coordinated partnerships and enhanced accountability to ensure tangible outcomes for young people.

In conclusion, the establishment of the first ever purposeful Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment solely dedicated for youth, as a strategic government platform and a testament for an effective Public Private Partnership for youth development.

Thank you.
